We are a progressive club aimed at encouraging and furthering the interests of its members in Radio and Electronics.

Please note the club has nothing whatsoever to do with any site attempting to market or trade under its name.

History

There have been Radio Clubs in Hastings dating back to the 1920s and the present club was founded in 1976 with the intention of bringing together people interested in amateur radio and electronics.

We are the largest club in the South of England with a membership of over 100, and we cater for all those with an interest in amateur radio and electronics. Our oldest member is 95 years old and took his Radio Amateur Examination when he was 90 with our youngest licensed member obtaining his license not so long ago at the age of 12.

Members and meetings

Our monthly meetings on one Wednesday of each month (excluding December) are an opportunity to get together with other club members for a friendly and informal evening. You will have a chance to meet like-minded people, discuss a problem, look at some new and burgeoning technology or marvel at old equipment or past developments. There really is something for everybody. Even John Logie Baird gave a talk to an earlier Hastings radio club at the time he was developing the first television and acquired the assistance of the late Mr Vic Mills, at one time a club member.

An important part of our monthly meetings are also a lecture or practical demonstration by either a club member or a professional person on an interesting subject, radio, electronics computers or other technical subject We hold regular used equipment auctions as well.

Training and licenses

We carry out a full authorized training program for those wanting to become Radio Amateur’s. We offer full instruction for the Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Licenses with courses taking you up to and including examinations.

Events and special occasions

We often take part in outside events and set up special event stations such as the event you have attended. In the past we have worked together with the Hobbies & Craft Fair, at Brede Steam Engine Society and at a special Windmills & Lighthouses weekend to name a few. We are able to make contact with people around the country and around the world.

The club publishes a monthly magazine that all members receive free. This has interesting and topical articles and news of our past and forthcoming program and events.

If you would like to learn more about Amateur Radio or are interested in joining the club (current membership is only £9 per year and half price for students) please come along to one of our main meetings at 7:00 pm on a Wednesday of the month where you will be made very welcome.
